Had the little puppies going in for their shots to my vet several times from mid June through July. $$$$ then back in because after their first vet visit and the 2 hour wait they broke with coccidia. $$$$ . Then one of my 7 year old dogs who had a neck injury last year at a previous owners home got "down" in his neck. $$$ . Then my 7 month old Silken injured ( or did he) a hind leg and was dragging it apparently not sure where it was, so more vet visits, xrays etc. $$$$ . Some nerve thing 3 weeks later you probably wouldn't know he had ever injured it. Egads.
So of course yesterday when not one but TWO of our 3 vehicles wouldn't start (right out of the blue bad batteries) I thought Lord love a duck how lucky am I? So new batteries (around $100 each). Looks like NO dog trips for me in August but the house and yard could use some attention anyway. It is kind of hot in August to do dogstuff anyway ( convincing myself I'd really rather be home cleaning, trimming outside etc than going to a dog event).

Stressful month
July and August are my least favorite months. The heat and humidity wear me down. We have been fortunate this year and this July has been one of the most pleasant I can remember with only a few days so far over 90 but August is yet to come. Had a lot of changes this month.
Glen changed jobs, same type of work, only now he will work at the county jail and drive maybe 10 miles to work instead of 37 to the state prison where I work. Pay is less but the cost is a lot less and we won't have to keep two newer vehicles to stay on the road to work all the time. Also much less stress I think so good for him. Unfortunately I can't make such a change right now, so I just keep fantasizing about retirement in 9 years.
Next week I go back to Vanderbilt for the vampiric series of blood tests to find out do I have any iron left? Do I have any vitamin D ? eeek. I take a LOT of vitamins so hopefully my blood values will have improved over those taken 3 months ago.
All of my baby Z puppies will be leaving by the end of the month. My keeper Zuni is being "borrowed" by a good friend to grow out a handsome silver puppy boy she got from a mutual friend in KY. So he will have adventures for a few months in NC with a cousin of sorts.
The bitch that Susan in TX and I coown who finished her Coursing Championship ( yes the jackrabbit title) now has several singles in the ring from some shows out West Susan sent her to. She is a really pretty but super muscular black and brindle bitch nice to see her recognized even if the shows were small.
Paid off the van and the little car this summer but probably it's time to buy another small car , just leave the van sitting and waiting for dog trips. I don't know I hate to buy anything with the economy sucking bathwater right now.
Oh on the lighter side I went to some of the IABCA ( kind of a smaller rare breed sort of deal) shows in KY this month and put the first IABCA conformation title on my 7 year old Silken boy Umber. This is just the best and most fun little dog. I can never ever thank Francie enough for letting him come home with me, he is delightful.

Yay now Zhen has checked in
Little Zhen has made the cross country flight from TN to WA and all is well. Thank goodness my once a year or less shipping adventures are over with. It is always so nerve wrecking for the breeder, the new owner and probably less for the puppy to ship one a long distance. Now on to new adventures on the West Coast for Zhen.
alright one "eagle " has landed
Heard from Zia's new mom Mary that he is on the ground in New Mexico. He arrived safe and sound in a pristine crate. I'm amazed because that was a LONG day for a baby puppy. I can't wait to hear about his future exploits in the land of enchantment, and I hope to get to see him on occasion on my trips out West. Now to hear from Zhen's new dad Steve in Washington. It was a couple hours longer trip so of course I am even more angst ridden about the shipping process.

Is Fort Stockton TX really hot as hell?
Well, now I have been watching USA TODAY newspaper and on the backpage there is always a big map of the US with all these different states and the temps in various places there. I've noticed that Ft. Stockton, TX has been in the mid 80's all but one week since June while Dallas has sweltered in upper 90's so I guess I'll be watching the temperatures and seeing if indeed it might be somewhere that I could stand to live in the future ( as in retirement). The property I have there is nice and level on a paved road with electricity on our side of the road, secluded , (try not to think of all the snakes) and if the temperatures aren't like being on a hot grill year round it might indeed be that I picked a decent spot. Northern NM sure looks appealing though ( as in Las Vegas, Angel Fire areas)
Then there were.....
Things are about to get a little calmer here after the excitement of baby puppies. This weekend several are leaving for new homes. Delta which uses air conditioned vans to transfer animals from plane to plane is one of the few airlines that flies animals in the summer so Zhen is leaving for Washington, and Zia is leaving for New Mexico on Friday. Then this weekend Zemtoo and Zao are headed for their new home in Ohio, and Zarek's owner is meeting me at a rare breed show in Kentucky and picking him up and heading back to Maryland with him. At the end of the month Ruslan and Mina are headed to Missouri. One of them will be a Kansas City boy and the other one headed to a cute little town called Tipton that a very good friend of mine lives in. She has had a rough year losing a couple of her old Borzoi and a couple of younger ones so I'm hoping Mina will spice up her life and give her some happy time instead of the sad times she has been having. It's hard to be depressed around a puppy I think. Yesterday was new toy time and they had a wild time of it running all over chasing each other with their new fuzzy squeaky toys. It's kind of funny the boy I'm keeping Zuni is actually leaving for a bit as a friend in NC has a pup from a nice litter up North and no one for it to grow up with so he is going to be a temporary Tarheel puppy, or a loaner so they'll both have someone to play with and exercise.

Karma is a beeyatch
Anyone that knows me knows I don't wish bad things on people even people who have gone out of their way to be mean to me. Karma is why. Now, I am not particularly superstitious but I do think that there is this sort of big wheel somewhere and what goes around does indeed come around, both the good and the bad. Certainly has happened to me, and I have no reason to think it doesn't happen to others. I hear of people who are sort of steeped in problems but who are being offered help by others, and in the midst of someone being kind to them the person being helped is busy trying to make problems for and between other people. This is the time in your life you need to focus on your problems, how to solve them or at least alleviate them and instead others are more interested in creating misery for some other person. Am I surprised when something really awful happens to them? No.
Karma it's what comes around.
