On July 10th we drove up to Black Mt KY, elevation 4139 feet around 4 hours from here and oh my in the middle of coal mining territory there. There were these huge coal conveyors crossing the state road in several places. At any rate we had a little impromptu picnic at the top, no real scenic photos from the top because it is covered with trees but I did get pictures of both of 
Archie and myself at the plaque there, the USGS marker, the old lookout tower there ( you can no longer get up because if you look the last TWO sections of stairs were removed and the FAA radar tower up there. All in all a fun day trip and we got to DRIVE to the top but we will pay for that plenty this fall trying to hike Mt. Whitney.
